Default Truble with making my own shisha

Hello guys, this is my first post on this forum.
I have a question about making my own shisha. I found a recipe online that says I have to mix 40% tobacco, 20% molasses or honey and 20% glycerin. The recipe also says 20% ground cloves but I did't use that. I want to know how does this work. I used 11grams of dried tobacco and 9 grams of both other indgridients and it is not nearly enough for that much tobacco. I am using virginia whole leaf tobacco. Thanks for your help in advance!

I agree. If by raw dog it he means just dive in head first and experiment without inhibition or a safety net. Make your own recipe. With trial and error we could all be buying your tobacco in a year if you stick with it.

So I did just what you said and baked it. I'll share my resoults as soon as I get from school. And one more question. Are ethanol based flavors ok to smoke or do I need glycerol based ones?

That could be arranged, but depends on where are you from. I would love an experienced tester.

I'd go with glycerin. The word ethanol, to me, implies a low tolerance to heat. Possibly having little staying power once it has a hot heat source like coals or the oven. But I am not experienced in making Shisha. Only smoking it

So this is what the tobacco i made looks like. I haven't added any flavor yet. And I think the syrup is not thick enough yet. All in all its better than my last batch hah

http://imgur.com/RnWCnM and this is the raw tobacco that I used akredy washed and cut.

The flavoring is the hardest part. Remember that the popular tobaccos spend a lot of time developing their flavors and it is hard to get them right and keep them consistent. Every batch you make should be catalogued by ingredient and exact amount if you want to try and stay consistent. That way you don't make a killer batch and say,"damn how much of this did I use last time?"

That's some good advice! I think im gona take that to a next level. I'll make an android app to log in my next recipe that I'm gona make. I'll upload it when it's done. And about my tobacco. I finished smoking it, and there was quite a lot of smoke, but the consistency of smoke was terrible. I think I might have used too much glycerol. It feels like smoking soap hah :/

As a more serious bit of advice essential oils can take you a pretty good ways from what I've seen, given enough time to properly soak in. In the same vein as the nutmeg comment just be careful to research any effects your more uncommon flavors might have in high doses.

Welcome, Gail! We have a handful of members from Johannesburg who can probably point you in the right direction. Have you tried asking at the local pharmacy?

Hi, Juggy.

I've tried the pharmacies, but I'm looking for 5 litres or more at a time. A friend makes e-juice for e-cigs said a company called Clyrolinx can help. I'm waiting for their number. Apparently they're in JHB. I'll post any info I get.
