Default Questions about windcovers

I'm decently understanding about how to smoke my hookahs with no issues, but have lately come to be curious about how a windcover would possibly benefit my sessions or at least reduce the work necessary to provide a good long lasting session. Is anyone willing to walk me through some of the basics and potentially suggest a pretty good fairly affordable windcover

A wind cover is amazing for easier heat management... the rule seems to be, one less coal while using a windcover, so it saves on coals... like if you would normally use 3 for a bowl, use 2 and a windcover... usually ill start my bowls depending on the tobacco with 2 coals and a windcover on and then take the windcover off when it gets going... then if the smoke starts to die down, ill throw it back on... it is great for keeping those smallr coals alive lol

well as cheap as they are just buy a windcover and think to yourself later on, "Wow I'm glad I bought this."

They're very useful, I honestly use my foil/coals/windcover over my lotus almost every time

It is useful to mention that you should consider what kind of bowls you own and what kind of pipe you own when purchasing a wind cover. I have a decently-sized one but on a KM (That have rather tall bowl ports) and using a Tangiers Phnnel (Which are tall bowls), it absolutely doesn't fit.

I wish I would have bought one of the larger, taller windcovers.

I swear I want to start a petition to change the name from Wind Covers to Bowl Ovens. While wind covers do the job of blocking wind when smoking outside, they work a lot better to help evenly distribute the heat throughout your bowl, allowing you to roast all of your tobacco while using less coals and giving you easier heat management by simply just removing the wind cover if it gets too hot.

Haha, yes. This is very true.

The name of wind cover is a bit misleading given their CURRENT most popular use.

Well I mainly smoke tangiers have 2 KM hookahs I use and have a banned bowl. If I remember right the bowl sits about the height of a tangiers phunnel bowl though. I figured I'd rather not purchase a wind cover and have it not fit. I mainly wanted to get a wind cover to reduce the need to focus frequently on heat maintenance, as well as be able to smoke out on my porch during rain storms.

I use a windcover to prolong the session, I always start my bowls with 3 coals and no windcover and once the coals get smaller where normally the smoke would start to thin out I throw the windcover on, you would be surprised how much longer you get out of a round of coals with a windcover by the time they are finally done and you take the windcover off you will find nothing but little rice grain sized coals left

The #1 reason I use a wind cover is because if a coal tumbles off the bowl, or someone trips over the hose and pulls everything over: the coals won't go spilling straight onto the carpet. They get caught up in the wind cover.

you wont regret getting a bigger windcover, taller is better, that being said ive never had a problem with my shorter windcovers, its not a huge deal if they dont reach all the way to the tray, mine are both the egyptian style that taper at the top, so they wedge themselves on the top of the bowl if its too tall

My windcover extends my sessions from 20 - 30 mins and enables me to smoke my bowls to the bottom and keep my heat levels at a constant, nice and crispy. I love my wind cover(bowl oven) and i approve of this message.

if your bowl is to high or your wind cover is a bit small you can always do this with a pair of tongs.

meh, maybe ill take a picture tonight, but seriously, ive never had to do anything like this, the cover just wedges itself on the bowl where it gets narrower, theres still a bit of room between the ceiling of the cover and the top of the coals. and it just hangs there, content with life. chillin out like a bro.

Doing it your way is ok if you don't want to hang the coals off the edge of the bowl a bit, when hanging them off that extra bit of space is crucial. This is the only reason why I prefer the tongs method (and I got a tall wind cover as well, its the big KM one) but with a phunnel bowl it still cant reach the ash tray

I use the duct tape roll lift method under the tray for my km. Looks ghetto, but I'm cool with that.

sounds like your making heat management more difficult. If it's too hot you need them hanging off take the cover off.

well yes, thats normal...but you hang the coals off the edge to get less heat...and add the windcover to get more heat...like thats the part im not getting. If your bowl is too cold when your coals are hanging off...why wouldnt you push them in instead of adding a windcover...?
