Default Hookah Help

I am getting 50g of Hydro Herbal Melon Shisha. I would like to know what would go good in the base(other than water) Also what type of drinks and food would go nice with this. I am throwing a hookah party. There will be no more than 5 or 6 people coming. Any feed back would be nice. Thanks

Is the party indoors or al fresco? Pool-side? what time? are you serving an actual meal (lunch or dinner) or just an amuse bouche or two? will you have time to prepare the food in advance? how much time? will the guests be seated, or are you looking for finger foods? hot foods? cold foods?

Are you looking for something casual, or a bit more extravagant? Pigs In A Blanket or Coquilles Ste Jacques?

Are you looking for cocktails?

What is the average age of the guests?

Jeans and T-shirt? Chinos and a Polo? Suit and tie?

It will be an indoor party, it will be afternoon, the guests will be seated, just finger foods, just something casual no cocktails the guests will all be 18 to 20, and just a very casual event with jeans and t-shirts.

Things in the base other than water
air (in addition to the water)
Drinks
Derby grog
7n'7
Margaritas
Lemonade
snacks
sliced apples with peanut-butter to dip them in
guacamole and tortilla chips
grapes
maybe a cheese ball?

If you want to go with a Middle-Eastern theme, you could always put out some Hummus bi Tahini (a Middle-Eastern dip made with Garbanzos, sesame paste, lemon juice, and garlic- there should be a recipe in the RECIPES thread, if not I'll post one for you. It's easy, and always goes over well) and some assorted fresh vegetables and pita chips for dipping. It's hard to go wrong with Hummus. If you wanted to put out a few more things, you could go with some nice olives, some Tabbouli (parsley and mint salad), or even some Deviled Eggs. Some fresh fruit would be nice, especially this time of year.

Less Middle-Eastern and more Eastern European would be cheeses, salami, prosciutto, some olives, etc.

You could also do a fruit salad. I'll put one in the RECIPE thread for you.

As far as drinks go, Moroccan mint tea might be nice, but it's generally served hot.
You might be better off with something cold, like Bissap, which goes remarkably well with Hookah. there's a recipe in the RECIPES thread.

You could always keep it simple and just serve cucumber water.

Always a good best practice with Hookah to have plenty of beverages available.

Good luck, and have fun! I'm sure it'll be a success!

Oh- and about the base- the guys are having a bit of fun with you, but yeah- just plain old water.

There are occasional exceptions to that rule, and there are some who have been around a long time that still like to put other things in the base, but in general, it kind of marks you as a newb to put stuff in the base.

Once you've been around for a while, it's okay to flout the rules a bit.

oh yeah- there's always bruschetta, too- if you want to do this, let me know and I'll put up some recipes. (to eat, btw, not in the base. I don't want a certain Binghamton University student to get any ideas...)

I posted bunches of recipes for you under the RECIPES thread, maybe something there will look good to you- if it does, let us know, and maybe we can help you plan a menu and some drinks from that.

Good luck, I'm sure it'll be a hit!
